Pain in Women
This new research looks at the differences in how men and women experience pain.
Dr. Peckman advised. “Hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone, profoundly affect the central nervous system, which is responsible for perceiving and transmitting the sensation of pain. This may help to explain why conditions such as osteoarthritis, headaches, and irritable bowel syndrome strike women at higher rates than men.”
“Women are also more prone to conditions involving the immune system. There are a host of diseases thought to result in part from an over-reactive immune system, such as celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and many types of pelvic pain.
