Mesothelioma Variants

Mesothelioma is a rare yet deadly cancer that almost always surfaces in a malignant form and results in tumors on significant organs of the body. Most people believe mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelium. So what exactly is the mesothelium? The mesothelium is a film or sac that surrounds vital organs in an attempt to protect them (such organs can include the lungs and heart). Mesothelioma can almost always be attributed to asbestos. While we might think there exists only one form of mesothelioma, there actually several. We will be talking about pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma, and pericardial mesothelioma. As unfortunate as it may be, mesothelioma’s symptoms don’t surface until the disease has progressed, which at times can be several years following exposure to asbestos. As one might guess, this can make diagnosis a pain and treatment a near impracticality.

Pleural mesothelioma is the widely known variant of mesothelioma. In this form of mesothelioma, tumors develop on the lining of the lungs. Most people with the disease have a difficult time swallowing, breathing, and getting around without coughing. They may also experience other symptoms such as weight loss.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma is a more uncommon form of mesothelioma. This variant of the disease sheds ill will on the lower parts of the body, particularly the abdomen and stomach. This cancer can start in either of the two locations and metastize (grow into other parts of the body). This variant of the disease tends to bring about more severe symptoms such as nausea and blood clots. Since these tumors can put pressure on surrounding organs, they can make for an unpleasant sensation.

Finally, its time we talk of a very rare type of mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma. Th¬is variant focuses on the heart and can bring about palpitations and breathing problems.

If you are or have ever experienced these types of symptoms, its best to speak to a doctor.

Understanding Mesothelioma: Mesothelioma or IBS?

While reading Woman’s own I came across an article by a girl who had Mesothelioma but the GP sent her home saying “you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome

So, What is Mesothelioma?

I decided to create this article for all the people out there, spending all day searching the keywords “what is mesothelioma and what problems does mesothelioma cause” on Google. Many of us still do not know what is mesothelioma cancer or disease? Well this article will tell you more or less some of the information about Mesothelioma cancer or disease.

Mesothelium covers the external surfaces of the heart and lung. It also covers the inner surface of the chest wall and the inner surface of the sac that surrounds the heart called pericardium. In the lungs the mesothelium is called pleura, in the heart it is called pericardium, and in the abdominal cavity it takes the name of peritoneum.

Its primary role is to protect these organs by producing a lubricating fluid that allows for movement. While mesothelioma can affect any of the mesothelial tissue in the body, it is most commonly seen in the pleural or peritoneal mesothelium. Sadly, many patients are not diagnosed with mesothelioma until symptoms are present, and symptoms are not usually present until the cancer is in its advanced stages.

To understand this a little better, let’s clarify that the mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the internal organs of the body. It is composed of two layers of cells: One layer immediately surrounds the organ; the other forms a sac around it. It (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in the cells of the mesothelium, which become abnormal and divide without any control and order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) occurs when the cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order.

Nearby tissues and organ can be affected and the cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from their original site to other parts of the body.
So what is Asbestos? Well, asbestos fibers cause lesions and scarring on the mesothelium, ultimately leading to the formation of tumors.

The damaged cells secrete large amounts of a clear fluid that presses on the lungs and other organs, causing severe discomfort. The tissue formed by these cells is called mesothelium. There are three main types of malignant mesothelioma: epithelial, sarcomatoid and mixed. The epithelial type is the most common. Mesothelioma is a horrific disease where a particular type of cell (the mesothelium) divides without control. This division of cells can lead to mesothelioma.

Now, not everything is bad news. Benign mesothelioma may occur wherever there is mesothelium. It is localized and does not spread to nearby tissues. Cancer that occurs in the mesothelium tissue is called mesothelioma . Malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. The most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but mesothelioma may also occur in the peritoneum or the pericardium .

One of the ongoing problems, however, with this remedy is the fact that mesothelium cancer can take years before it starts to show. In some cases, this period has been over 40 years. The mesothelium makes fluid between the two layers that lubricates the movement of the organs it protects. It actually develops in the mesothelium; a thin, double-layered protective sheath that surrounds vital organs and body cavities. The mesothelium that protects the chest and lungs is called the pleura and the mesothelium that surrounds the abdomen is called the peritoneum.

Acid reflux disorder, otherwise known as acid reflux syndrome, is firstly caused by your lower esophageal sphincter not working adequately which causes acid from the stomach goes in the esophagus The symptoms associated with acid reflux syndrome can disappear for weeks or even months at a time, but the symptoms often come back. The symptoms and intensity of acid reflux syndrome vary greatly. The main symptom of acid reflux syndrome that everyone knows about is the heartburn sensation. There may also be unexplained vomiting, but there are other symptoms such as stomach upset, regurgitation feeling in the throat as well as others.
There are many treatments for acid reflux syndrome. Once treatment for acid reflux syndrome has begun it is usually necessary to continue treatment for the rest of your life. Prescribed medications for treating acid reflux syndrome may include the use of an H2 blocker or proton pump inhibitors to name a few.

Some lifestyle changes that can help relieve acid reflux syndrome include giving up tobacco and/or alcohol use and weight loss. Some people prefer to treat acid reflux syndrome with herbs or botanicals as well as lifestyle changes are also common options. Another natural method that can be used in the treatment of acid reflux syndrome is through a well defined diet of “friendly” foods. Avoiding lying down immediately after meals is also a good practice to prevent acid reflux syndrome.

Treating Anxiety Attacks - Part 1 - The Mechanics of Anxiety by Jay Bose

Stress is the root cause while mental ailments such as anxiety, depression, phobias, panic attacks and their derivatives are all symptoms of stress. So, if you can eliminate the root cause and you will eliminate the symptoms. Actually it is similar to saying remove all the water from the world and you will not have any floods. It does not appear to be such a good idea any more does it? Water will always be there, so how do we work around the flooding problem? We build dams, construct barriers, re-route the rivers and what not to prevent the flooding.

Like the ubiquitous water, stress is everywhere. We need to find ways to work-around the harmful effects of stress. So although in this case we cannot eliminate the root cause, we can definitely learn how to mitigate the risks imposed upon our psychology and physiology. I will not delve into the physiological interpretation of stress in this article, however you can visit the resource link at the bottom of this article for further information. It is important to have that background however.

Why do we feel anxious?

As you know by now, anxiety is a symptom of stress. It is a natural response of your body, triggered by your brain to indicate that you there is some abnormality in your life at the moment.

9 Hidden Keys to Happiness and Success
 by: Melissa Van Rossum

I came across this article today, so I thought I share it with my readers.

Having a Positive control over our thoughts results in a lower stress levels, consequently keeps Irritable Bowel/Brain away!!

We all love to feel motivated. I know I do. It’s absolute nirvana to be on purpose and on task at the same time. But life often intervenes in my plans and that can mean stress, frustration and setbacks and I find that I have to live my life on Inner Motivation – particularly when the proverbial chips are down. Most of us wait for someone else to give us a reason to move ahead or we wait for circumstance or opportunity to line up in just the right way so we can move ahead with the inner commitment we’ve been holding back.  We wait for our partner to say ‘I love you’ first, we wait for a sign of acceptance before we commit to revealing some part of ourselves and we wait for the evidence of the result before we commit our belief.

To many of us this seems like a smart or even shrewd way of going about business and life. We think we’re protecting and insulating ourselves by not putting too much ‘out there’ and therefore avoiding disappointment or (God forbid) rejection. In reality, though, this is actually a very dangerous way to live life because it puts your life and your happiness in someone else’s hands - a sure fire equation for misery. From the inside this may seem like a very controlled way to live life, but it’s actually a very out of control way to live life. That’s why it makes us so unhappy and leaves us so unfulfilled. There’s nothing dependable or controlled about it.

One of my favorite movie scenes is from the Indiana Jones movie where he (played by Harrison Ford) and his father (played by Sean Connery) are searching for the Holy Grail. Indiana’s father lies dying at the hands of the Nazis and to save his life Indiana must find the Holy Grail. To get to the Grail, Indiana has to accurately decode his father’s Grail diary which will enable him to make his way through certain life-threatening challenges. After successfully making his way through several of the tests, he comes to a huge chasm that lies between where he is and where he wants to be.  He reads the Bible passage from his father’s diary which has to do with “faith being the evidence of things not seen”. He picks up a handful of sand and throws it out to the chasm only to see the sand fall on an invisible bridge.
